State Forensics

On Saturday, May 3rd the duet of Hailey Bauman and Tim Laughlin attended the 2A State Forensics festival at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina with Coach Pam Lauer. They performed a comical duet called "Funeral Parlor, "which had qualified for state at an invitational meet at TVL and Rock Creek earlier in the season. Bauman and Laughlin received a II rating.

"Tim and Hailey faced a very tough judge and I think they did a really great job," stated Lauer.

"I was really happy about our rating and it was a great experience. I would love to do it again," said Bauman.

Class Officers

During seminar on Tuesday April 29th class officer elections were held, selecting class leaders for next year.

For the 2008-09 school year senior president will be Natalie Boss and vice president will be Samantha Andersen. The senior secretary will be Caitlin Frohberg. Levi Jenkins will be the senior StucoRep and Darrin Jacobson will be senior treasurer.

The sophomores elected Tim Laughlin to be the junior class president next year and Hailey Bauman to be the vice president. Matt Fuller will be the junior secretary. Chelsea Marquette was elected StucoRep and the junior treasurer will be Chase Blackburn.

The freshmen elected Brody Dobrovolny as class president and Aaron Boeschling as class vice president. Eleanor Musil was elected StucoRep for next year and Annie Pralle was elected secretary. Freshman Kristan Hays will be next year’s treasurer.

Senior Vietnam Peace Rally

The Senior Class Vietnam Peace Rally was held during seminar on Friday, May 2nd. Each senior was required to do a 3-5 minute presentation as a final project in the Vietnam War unit held in American History and English. The students wore costumes as a supporter or a protestor.

"I thought the peace rally was really interesting and I thought our class was really into it. There were a lot of really good presentations," stated senior Quince Botkin.

"This may very well be the final Vietnam Peace Rally held at Valley Heights for seniors so it was kind of bitter sweet for me. The seniors did an excellent job," said senior English teacher Jan Pope

AR Pizza Party

A pizza party awarding top readers in Accelerated Reader was held on Friday, May 9th. Those in junior high who qualified had to have a least 125 points and the high school students had to have a least 175 points. The qualifiers reported to the FACS room to enjoy their pizza.

The seventh graders that qualified for the pizza party were Brooke Claycamp, Brenden Dobrovonly, Devin Griffee, Stephen Kinzel, Jesse Medina, Katelyn Musil, Shelbi Neufeld, and Tanner Trimble.

Levi Berger, Emily Bussmann, Rachel Christie, Justin Fitzjurls, Arthur Helvie, Shelli Miller, Ali Pishny, and Kaitlyn Wilson were all the eighth graders that qualified for the pizza party.

The freshmen that attended the pizza party were Katie Atkinson, Ross Bergsten, Lucas Heberling, Kayla McNary, Eleanor Musil, and Chris Winslow.

Heather Brown, Vivien Gude, Jeff Saylor, and Arissa Virden were the sophomores that qualified for the pizza party.

The juniors that had pizza were Eliza Benteman and Shelby McNary.

The seniors that qualified for the pizza party were Kirk Duensing, Samantha Holle, and Justine Walsh.

"Pizza is a great incentive for our reading program. I’m always amazed at the number of students who read just to get to attend our pizza party and our 7th, 8th, and 9th graders continue to amaze me with their reading," stated Library Media Specialist Dixie Talbot.

Awards Night

The senior’s awards nights will be held on Wednesday, May 14th. Seniors can receive an award or scholarship.

Seniors last day

The senior’s last day will be Thursday, May 15th.

Baccalaureate

On Sunday, May 11th at 7:30 p.m. the community churches will be holding a Baccalaureate to honor seniors. This will be an optional ceremony for the seniors and their parents.
