Hopefully, all of you are enjoying your summer and have found a way to stay out of this intense heat.  I would like to welcome everyone to the 2017-2018 school year.   I’m looking forward to working with each and every one of you in a positive, supportive fashion.  This is going to be a great year for all of us.

There are some new faces to the elementary faculty and staff. Alyssa Crowther will be teaching 4th. grade. Alyssa graduated from Bethany College and this will be her 5th year teaching.  Alyssa and her husband, Spencer, have three children.  Holly Gatson will be the new 1st grade teacher.  Holly graduated from the University of Missouri.  Holly and her husband Garth live in Manhattan, KS.    Besides the new faces to the buildings, there are other changes in the elementary buildings.  Mr. Schreiner will be the new P.E. instructor taking over for Crystal Gordon.  Susie Vermetten will be teaching Kindergarten and Candice Brooks will be the Pre-K lead.

In the elementary buildings, “2nd Step” a new Social and Emotional Curriculum will be introduced.

The first day of school will be Wednesday, 16th. Breakfast will be served. Please remember that students will be dismissed at noon and no lunch will be served.

Enrollment will be on Monday, August 7th  & August 8th from 8:00am to 1:00pm and then from 4:00pm to 7:00pm both days.  Enrollment forms and student handbooks found on the new Valley Heights website at www.valleyheights.org under documents.  Please take a moment to review the attendance and truancy policy outlined in the student handbook as attendance will be a priority.

Please join us for the Elementary Open House the evening of August 15th from 5:00 to 6:00.   It will give you and your child an opportunity to meet their teacher and look around their classroom.

Remember the establishment of routines at home during the first few weeks of the new school year often reaps benefits down the road.

 Sincerely,

Robert Green
