REMEMBERING WORLD WAR II.

REMEMBERING WORLD WAR II. Valley Heights’ Junior class studies World War II in Mrs. Yungeberg’s english class. Each year, Jr/Sr English teacher Jenny Yungeberg assigns her juniors to interview a survivor or observer of World War II. “I teach about the Holocaust because it was such a huge event. It’s the most important topic I teach all year, and I think it’s important for young people to know about it so history doesn’t repeat itself. It’s a very concerning issue to me.”

Students were given the assignment just before Christmas break. The end of the unit required students to find and bring in World War II memorabilia. The items brought in included letters, photos, medals, uniforms, and other various artifacts. “I think seeing all the items in person and hearing the backgrounds of each one really made us appreciate who and where they came from on a different level.”
