Magazine Article
Last Name, First Name. “Title of Article.” Name of Magazine. DD Month YYYY: Pages.

Example:
Showker, Kay. “The Wild Carribean.” National Geographic Traveler. January/February 1998: 100-109.

NOTE: If the article is from an on-line magazine, the format is the same except that instead of page numbers, insert the date of access and the URL. See example for on-line sources.

Book
Last Name, First Name. Title of Book. City of publication:Publisher’s name. YYYY. Pages (if appropriate).

Example:
Marrin, Albert. America and Vietnam. New York:Viking Press. 1978. 279-284.


Book with an Edition or Volume Number
Last Name, First Name. “Title of Article.” Title of Book. Edition. Volume. City of publication: Publisher’s name. YYYY. Pages (if appropriate).

Example:
Thompson, James. “The American Political System.” Encyclopedia of Democracy. Los Angeles: Smith and Sons. 1998. 357-391.

Encyclopedia Articles
Last Name, First Name. “Title of Article.” Title of Encyclopedia, year, volume, pages.

Example:
Leet, D. “Tiger.” Encyclopedia Americana, 1988, 21, 40-43.

On-line Sources
Last Name, First Name. “Title of Page.” Name of host site. DD Month YYYY. <http://www.URL.com>.

Example:

                 Works Cited Spacing and Layout

  • Do NOT number entries
  • Alphabetize entire list on final copy. (Do NOT label by type.)
  • Use hanging indent for each entry.
  • Single space within each entry.
  • Double space between entries.
  • Place the title, "Works Cited," centered at the top of the page.
EXAMPLE:
