VH School Year “Kicks Off”

By: Shelby McNary

Valley Heights High School students ended their summer on Thursday, August 14th with the first bell of the school year but that bell was, without a doubt, the sole reminder of a typical first day of school.  USD 498 kicked off the school year with its first ever district wide bully prevention conference held at the high school.

The conference united a high school mentor with a grade school mentee in an effort to kick bullying out of local schools.

“I was really proud of hose our students interacted.  I was especially proud of the mentors,” commented High School Principal Don Potter.

Free tee-shirts designed by senior Tara Ramsay were distributed after the pairing of the students.  The shirts incorporate the theme for the year, “Step up so others don’t get stepped on.”  Once students were dressed in their new shirts, the entire student body gathered for a picture.
