USD 498 Student Accident Insurance Policy Change

In the past, any student who was injured while participating in a school-sponsored activity or event was covered by a supplemental plan that helped pay for bills which the parents' medical insurance did not pay.  If an injured student was uninsured, the school insurance paid the entire balance (up to the policy limits).  Unfortunately, due to costs, this in no longer the case.

Beginning with the 2010-11 school year, our district policy will utilize a deductible format.  If a student is injured, the parents' insurance is utilized first.  After that, the parents are responsible for $3500 of any unpaid balance.  Any remaining amount after the parents pay the $3500 will be paid by K & K Insurance.

K & K Insurance  (Nationwide)  offers an accident policy parents may purchase to help bridge this gap.  This "Student Accident Only Insurance" has options for 24-hour accident coverage, at-school coverage, and football coverage.  A policy to cover a high school student for 24 hours a day all year can be purchased for only $62 per year.  Summer only can be purchased for $16 per year.  The cost for football coverage is $106 per year.
