New Town, New Memories

Valley Heights welcomes new students to their school. Among these is a freshman by the name of Michelle Sandoval. Michelle moved to the Valley Heights community in late August before the start of school. “My father’s work led our family to move, and I’m really enjoying Valley Heights so far,” said Michelle. Quickly becoming involved, Michelle joined the girls’ volleyball team, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes group, Forensics, and the All School Play. “I just wanted to meet new people, and become involved to try new things.”

“Kaylee Skalla was the first person who really stepped up to show me around and become my friend. We share our fifth hour class together and we’re always laughing and having fun.” Forensics teacher and Play Director, Lynette-Steel Coon, said that, “Michelle is amazing at facial expressions in the play. I love watching her up on the stage. Even though her part may not be large, she treats it like the leading role.” Michelle’s involvement in the All School Play includes multiple singing roles and humor to accompany her many reactant facial expressions.

Head Coach of the high school volleyball team, Susan Steinfort, says that, “Michelle has been improving since day one. Every practice, every game she is getting better. She always puts forth effort and never hangs her head over any mistakes.” Michelle became ecstatic when mentioning volleyball. “This is my first year of volleyball, and I feel like it’s going well. The girls on the team are like a family, and we are all united together. After every practice we have shout-outs where players go around and say something that they noticed about their teammates throughout the practice. These always make me happy and I’m sometimes surprised that someone noticed me doing well.”
