ROAD TO REDEMPTION

ROAD TO REDEMPTION. Valley Heights High School volleyball girls win substate for the third year in a row. The Lady Mustangs traveled to Ell-Saline for sub-state last Saturday. They came in sitting as the number one seed with a record of 34-4. “ I was really nervous coming in as the number one seed, because in previous years we had always been the underdog, and I knew people would be gunning to beat us. Even though there was some pressure I was extremely confident in our abilities.” says Senior libero, Kennedy Stevenson.

The Mustangs faced two very talented teams, Ell-Saline and Ellsworth, to advance to the Sub-State championship. Valley Heights would have to beat the Bennington Bulldogs to reach their ultimate goal of making it back to the state tournament, for the 3rd year in a row. The Mustangs were able to come out on top, winning in two sets. Maddy Vermetten, Sophomore outside, says “Making it back to state this year means more to me, because I'm out for revenge. After what happened last year getting beat out the first day, it pushes me to play even harder and prove everyone who is underestimating us, wrong”. The Lady Mustangs will be heading to Dodge City this weekend trying to claim the 2a volleyball state title.
