Kaylee Skalla filling out her History March Madness bracket.

THIS ISN’T BASKETBALL. There have been 80 National Collegiate Athletic Association tournaments in the United States since 1939, according to the NCAA. Since the start of the NCAA, the tournament has evolved into what is presently called March Madness. While everybody is submitting their brackets to the NCAA, the seniors are submitting their brackets for Mr. Broxterman’s spin-off assignment.

Mr. Broxterman’s American Government class has filled out a bracket similar to the brackets used by the NCAA. Instead of picking between basketball teams, the students are picking between some of the greatest Americans in history. For the weeks following, the students will decide who the best American in history is through single elimination. Mr. Broxterman said, “This will be a cool project. This is the first time I’ve done something like this, and I think everyone will really enjoy this project.”

The seniors are finding fun with this project. Damian Yungeberg said, “It was interesting. I actually had to look some of these people up, and I learned a lot.” The seniors are also discovering the suspense with their brackets. Aden Ryan said, “There are going to be a lot of difficult decisions. I had to put some of the best people up against each other. It was hard to pick a winner.”
