NHS Members Posing for a picture

HONORABLE INDUCTEES.  Honor runs deep within the National Honor Society at Valley Heights. The club strives to help the community and drive the members to do great things after high school. The idea of the National Honor Society (NHS) has existed for over one hundred years with the Alpha Chapter being founded in 1921 by Principal Edward S. Rynearson of Fifth Avenue High School. The requirements for membership are a 3.5 grade point average, and a survey taken by all teachers. This survey is graded on the Likert scale based on the four pillars; service, character, leadership, and scholarship. The candidates then write self evaluations on the four pillars as they relate to them. To finish off the prerequisites, the candidates then request a teacher or a mentor write a letter of recommendation giving their perspective of the candidate’s nomination. Members of NHS have historically been prominent leaders in the school and both communities. Members are required to have ten service hours per semester. Current member Olivia Skalla goes on to explain, “Members are allowed only four hours per activity and ten overall throughout each semester.” Many members join to help improve the community and to earn scholarships for the future. This club has a massive impact on the community and helps students become the best versions of themselves.

The new inductees include; Logan Gray, Jayden DeWalt, Tyrel Wagner, Lilly Busey, Anne Toerber, Haily Stoudt, Hudson Nemechek, Dustin Denton, Tessa Miller, Khloe Gunn, Kloee Martin, Saige Wilcox, Kayla Bigham, and Harmony Conti. The NHS Banquet will take place on Wednesday April 19 at 6:30pm.
