WHO'S YOUR HERO? “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles,” quote by Christopher Reeve. Some heroes are individuals, some heroes are superheroes from movies, and some even happen to be people you’ve never even met before. No matter who or what your hero is, just about everyone has different meanings of their own. In the third hour journalism class, students spoke out about their own heroes.

Taya Smith, senior says, “A hero to me is someone that I look up to, anyone that is influential to me. My hero today is my parents, they have been by my side through everything. I look up to them and strive to do things they would push me to do. I know that I can go to them in any situation.”

Sophomore, Khloe Gunn, defines her hero as, “A person who protects and supports those around them, one who is encouraging. My hero is my sister, Maecyn. She has always had my back and pushes me to be my best and achieve goals.”

Junior Liam Shill takes a different path and goes on to say, “A hero is someone who holds values to their own disadvantage. Someone who is selfless. My hero is Batman because he is selfless and will always be right.”

Journalism teacher Mrs. Coon says a hero to her is, “An unselfish, caring person that thinks of others instead of themselves. But, it can also be someone that exemplifies hard work, dedication, and good morals to lead by example. My hero today is K-State men's basketball coach, Jerome Tang. He has involved the whole K-State nation to do better and “elevate” expectations and contributions for the good of all. Plus he is a faith-based individual who practices what he preaches.”

Your hero could be your parents, your sister, even Batman, or just a coach, but never be ashamed of who you consider to be your hero. Not all heroes are the ones that wear capes and save people, some heroes can simply be anyone.
