NFL Draft 2023

DRAFT FRENZY. As the month of April winds down, football fans are piling into Kansas City for the annual National Football League (NFL) draft. This event changes the lives of hundreds of young men, and puts them on the path towards even more success. The draft, as usual, is full of storylines left to right. The biggest story this year is the quarterback class. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is considered the consensus number one pick for the Carolina Panthers. The next pick is where the drama starts to escalate. Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud is the odds on favorite to be the second overall pick, but another QB is shooting up draft boards. Will Levis, Kentucky QB, has gained a lot of buzz after his pro day, but many fans agree that he hasn’t shown as high of an upside as Stroud.

Anything can happen during the draft and football fans can and will watch it anywhere they can. Many students at Valley Heights tend to watch the draft during the Athletic Banquet. Senior Caden Parker reminisces on his favorite draft day memory. “I remember during the banquet my Freshman year, Evan Haines, who’s a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers, was hoping that the 49ers would not draft Mac Jones with the third pick that year. During a speech at the banquet, the 49ers didn't pick Jones and he stood up and cheered.” No matter where you are, there is going to be someone watching the NFL draft and many should be ready for their reaction.
