TRYING OUT TRYOUTS. A new year means a new play. Which also means new cast members and tech. This year’s play auditions are a little bit different than last year and have an interesting story.
Prior play auditions have been quite simple. The person auditioning usually read lines and waited to find out their part the following week. This year, however, the auditions were more challenging. The auditions were structured after professional audition routines. Instead of reading lines right off the script, auditionees had to memorize monologues and have a song prepared to sing via karaoke.
Of course singing made people more nervous, so all sessions were performed privately. Senior Olivia Skalla said, “I sang ‘Love Story’ by Taylor Swift and I think I killed it. Now I was nervous in the hallway and felt like I was about ready to cry. Honestly I wasn’t really excited about the auditions, but I am super excited about the play, especially when everything is all set up.”
“I am involved in the play because my friends and I did it last year and had a great time. I am really excited to perform this year. During tryouts I sang the song ‘Thank God I Do’ by Lauren Daigle. I was not too nervous and I thought I did very well.” Said Junior Kloee Martin.
Sophomore Lawson Stryker said, “I was in the play last year so I thought I would continue the tradition. I sang ‘Flowers on the Wall’ by the Statler Brothers. I was not really nervous about singing because I have known the song for so long, due to my mom listening to old music often.”
"I have always done theater and always wanted to do the All School Play. I really enjoy the play because I get to talk to everyone, especially those who are not in my class.” Said Freshman, Dino Conti.
This year’s play, “Yearbook Reflections” by Steven Fendrich, will be premiering November 10-12. at the Waterville Opera House.
