Play-by-play by Liam N. Shill of Valley Heights Football versus the Republic County Buffaloes.

The Valley Heights Mustangs travel into Buffalo Country to take on Republic County. The Buffalos were 0-3 while the Mustangs were 2-1 ready to keep adding wins. The Mustangs got a taste for Homecoming victories, with this being the second Homecoming victory away from home.

With the ball, the Mustangs started a long drive towards the end zone. The Buffaloes however, started off with resistance and a sack. This did not stop the Mustangs from marching down the field with a touchdown pass to Logan Gray. It was the Buffalo's turn to score but a fumble on the first play led to Ben Arganbright grabbing the ball for the Mustangs. Back on offense, a touchdown pass to Cayden Dummermuth. A penalty however reversed the play. Throughout the game the Mustangs were plagued with penalties and touchdowns being reversed. After a touchdown by Jayden DeWalt, the PAT kick was blocked resulting instead into a two point conversion.

The Buffaloes took the ball after halftime. Play after play the Mustangs put up an impenetrable defense forcing the offense to punt. With pressure from Royce Ekstrum, the Buffaloes had to retreat to the goal line and punt. After a failed attempt to punt, it hit Ben Arganbright who took it in for a touchdown. The Buffaloes then received the ball and started to attack, but almost had an interception by Carson Spoonts. The game kept going with the Mustangs being able to keep the Buffaloes out of the end zone completely. In the fourth quarter, the JV took the field and were able to hold off the defense. The game ended 52-0 and made the Mustangs go 3-1, surpassing last year’s 2-7.

The next game will be the Mustang Homecoming versus Sacred Heart on September 29, 2023.
