Journalism Staff

HOPING ON THE TRENDS. The Valley Heights Journalism Staff attended a Jostens workshop in Topeka and was inspired to create a social media page. The thought behind this was to reach out to more of our student body and community members with something that everyone has, social media.

Each post goes through an approval process to determine that we are getting factual and accurate data. First step in this process is writing out an approval sheet for Lynette Coon, the Journalism advisor. After receiving approval, the staff can move forward to create the content. Before it is shared to the media, it has to be edited and approved a second time by another staff member and again Mrs. Coon.

The J-Staff created an Instagram and TikTok page to create reminders, share funny content, and post updates on the yearbook. On these pages you will see teasers of the yearbook theme and pictures that the staff captures at events, such as sports, band and everyday-student life. J-staff wants to keep up with trends but also to get more of the student body to participate and interact. “I think that creating this page will help more kids get involved because they will most likely see these posts while scrolling through Instagram rather than Facebook!” Says Sophomore, Kadence Pierson.
