Trick or Treat

TRICK OR TREAT. This year, 73% of people, up from 69% in 2022, will take part in Halloween-related events. “Halloween participation returned to pre-pandemic levels this year,” according to the National Retail Federation's annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. Halloween is one of the most fun, childish, and cherished holidays of the year.

This holiday is so greatly enjoyed by student, Kebeb Zimmerman. He created a snapchat story to express his holiday spirit. “When watching the story, “Ook Spook,” people can have something to smile at after a tough day or maybe a hard practice.” says the sophomore. When asked what Halloween means to him he says, “From watching scary Halloween movies to dressing up and trick-or-treating, people can't get enough of the spooky holiday.”

The ancient Celts created the holiday to commemorate Samhain. At the end of the summer, during Samhain, a pagan religious festival to celebrate the harvest, people lit bonfires and donned costumes to fend off ghosts. “The farther we've gotten from the magic and mystery of our past, the more we've come to need Halloween." This is a quote from Paula Guran.
