Delana's Senior of the Week

Senior Season

“I want people to remember me as the girl that always was smiling. I do my best to always help and support others the best I can. Always being nice to others, cracking jokes, screaming, yelling. Just like being a ray of sunshine.” says Delana Faith Murk, a senior at Valley Heights High School. Delana is the daughter of  Shana and David Murk, and has two sisters. Chevelle being the oldest, Shae the middle child, and Delana the youngest. Oh, and of course, her pet dog Milo.

Delana was born on April 4. She grew up in Blue Rapids, Kansas which is still her home today. Family means a lot to Delana, so when asked who had the biggest impact on her life she emphasized her dad. “As a little girl I always went everywhere with him. He taught me hard work and perseverance. He pushes me everyday to be my best, and I get my funniness and humor from him.” Hard work is no stranger to the senior, her best accomplishment in her opinion was, “I am most proud of recovering from two ACL surgeries and still continuing to play sports.” Aside from school and sports, Delana’s dream is to be a mom, “I have always wanted to be a mom, and have happy and healthy children.”

Although Delana is ready to move on to the next chapter in her life, she has a lot of fond memories from high school. High school is full of highs and lows, and hard work, but without it we wouldn’t have all the memories that come with it. A memory at VHHS that Delana will never forget is, “ When we made it to State, at Bramlage my freshman year basketball season. We were in the men’s locker room. We felt so important and had so much fun. The locker room was HUGE! Playing on that court was a dream.” Delana was involved in a lot of school activities throughout her four years of high school. Those include: Stuco Secretary 1 year, Class Stuco Representative 1 year, Yearbook Ad Editor 2 years, NHS President 1 year, FBLA Vice President 1 year, Journalism 2 years, All School Play 4 years, FFA 2 years, KAY’S 4 years, NHS 2 years, NHS President 1 year, STUCO 1 year, FACS 4 years, Band 1 year, Volleyball 4 years, Mustang Tough 1 year, and Basketball 4 years.

After high school graduation, Delana wants to attend a four year university to study Marketing or Education and Coaching. Ten years from now Delana wants, “A good job, in which I will love to go to everyday, as well as being able to provide for my family and help out my community in any way.” Outside of school Delana loves her church and hanging out with friends. Delana comments, “My ideal Friday or Saturday night is to get a group of friends to go eat, blast music, and mess around town.” Although she is an outgoing person there are still some things you might not know about Delana, for instance both of her big toes are crooked. Her favorite foods are potatoes, bread sticks, pasta, and chicken alfredo. She is very easy going and likes to have fun. As Delana's high school career comes to an end, some advice she would like to give to underclassmen is, “Be nice. Say hi to everyone. Give compliments. Hold the door. Just do small gestures everyday to put a smile on someone's face. It may make their whole day just a little bit better than before.”
