Back2Back Appearance

Back2Back Appearance. Thursday October 24th, 2023 the Lady Mustang Volleyball team travels to Dodge City KS, to compete in the 2023 State Volleyball Tournament. Last weekend the team competed in Alma Wabaunsee for the sub-state title and a chance to punch their ticket to state. The Lady Mustangs won in two sets in the championship game, 25-11 and 25-8.

This week is a big week for the football team at Valley Heights, while the volleyball team is also preparing for a big weekend. Delana Murk said, “I have spent easily over 24 hours watching film on the teams we are going to play since Sunday.” Olivia Skalla added that she is preparing in a similar way, “I am going to study the film intensely so I can tell what their weaknesses are.” Audra Steinfort said, “I am very sad to know this is my last time playing volleyball but I am so thankful for the team I am experiencing this last with.” Brooke Porter said, “The team is one that never gives up, even when the odds are against us we continuously do our best. I am looking forward to playing one last time with my classmates!”

While interviewing the underclassmen they had lots to say as well. Avery Stevenson said, “I am extremely excited to be a part of this team. The atmosphere at state I can only imagine is going to be crazy. I can remember watching my sister compete and with myself being in the crowd it was a fun experience but this year it’s different. I am on the court and I cannot wait!” Paige Miller added on to Avery’s comment by saying, “I have been waiting for this moment all season, I am going to start packing tonight and probably make a trip to Dollar General to get my necessities that I will need for this weekend!” Josie Parker moved back to Waterville KS a little later during the season, she got the opportunity to be on the tournament team for TVL and this past weekend she got the opportunity to step in and play the middle blocker position. When interviewed, Josie said, “I actually wasn’t nervous, I’m so excited and grateful for this new amazing opportunity! My teammates gave me so much confidence and I knew I had to step it up for the team. This group of girls are the easiest to get along with and we have so much fun. I just have to trust myself and my ability to play the game. During sub-state the team did so well about keeping their spirits up, not getting down on ourselves, cheering each other on, communicating, and keeping the energy up. If we can bring that energy into the state tournament we’re going to be a really hard team to beat.

The Lady Mustangs are ready for this weekend and excited to take on some extremely solid and talented teams. Coach Steinfort said, “This team has been able to encounter and conquer so many situations this season because of their fortitude.  They are ready for the challenges that the State Tournament brings and will do whatever it takes to be successful.  Led by the 5 seniors, each one of them cherishes every moment on the bench, court, and in practice!”
