TALK TO THE HANDS.
The Lady Mustangs take State this weekend in Dodge City! Last weekend they went 3-0 in sub-state. The weekend before they went 6-1 at TVL and ended up coming out with the TVL championship.The team has five varsity seniors leading their team this season.
Along with her senior players, outside hitter Maggie Toerber has a lot to do with their success. As they take on the biggest challenge of their season on Friday October 2022. Maggie says, “Our biggest challenge on Friday will be our mental game. We can beat anyone if we are mentally there, that’s what matters. Staying focused all day and setting ourselves up for success to finish three strong games.” The girls have learned a lot over the past few months from their wins and losses. When asked what you have learned this season to make your team more successful? Maggie comments," To play together as a team and trust each other.”
With ups and downs, for Toerber the Mustangs turning point this season was at TVL. "When we smoked Hanover and Centralia, we had so much energy and that's why we won. We just shut these other teams down by celebrating every point and having fun. Our team's turning point was probably losing three games in a row at Washington. It really woke us up. We knew we needed to fix some things, after that it really got us into gear.” Maggie remarked. Having nights like Washington when you have no momentum, Maggie tells a way the girls stay positive when they are down in a set, “I just try to keep myself positive even when I’m struggling, I try to create energy on the court. When I get down it affects the other girls so I do my best to encourage them.” exclaims the senior.
Maggie has been playing volleyball all four years of high school. Knowing this is her last game of her high school career, she says “I’m sad about it but it hasn’t really hit me yet, cause I’m still playing. I think it will when I play my last game on Friday or Saturday.” When Maggie and the Lady Mustangs step on the court Friday the evolution of their hard work and determination of the season plays out!
