Basketball Champ to PE teacher
“Well done is better than well said”- Ben Franklin
This quote speaks to the new Valley Heights Physical Education teacher because he is always about getting things done with a purpose. Drew Honas was born in Wichita, KS and grew up in Medicine Lodge, KS. He got his physical education and health degree at Kansas State University, where he also played basketball. His teaching career was inspired by his dad at a very young age “My dad was a teacher, coach and principal for almost 40 years! He would take me to his practices. The overall feeling of family and community brought me happiness and from there on I knew l wanted to do what my dad was doing.” Coach Honas’s career was always influenced by his dad and best friend, Judd Dohrmann.
When Coach Honas was asked how he plans to make an impact in the VHHS community he said “I will make an impact by transferring my knowledge and what l have learned to all of my students. l plan to be positive and direct.” Drew Honas is not only the P.E teacher, but also the 2023-24 Men's basketball coach.
When asked how he felt about this upcoming season he said “I am very excited for the season to start. I look forward to working with the team and having a successful season. I plan to share what l know with the kids so that they can get better everyday and perform their best.”
