Fortnite Fever

Fortnite Fever. Since November 3, Over 65% of the Valley Heights student body plays Fortnite. Before that, only about 10% of the student body was playing.“Old is new, and new is old,” a quote by Matt Polisk. Fortnite is making a comeback all over the US and especially in our school and community. It is a free, battle royal video game you can play with your friends to have fun! Fortnite was very popular in 2017 when the game started with 1 million players in August and by the end of that year, just a few months later, that number shot up to 30 million. Since then it has proven to be the most popular cross platform game in the last decade. Fortnite lost popularity after a great run for a solid four to five years. 

It had too many changes to the game and many people were getting tired of the same game. Fortnite was dying. But, Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite said, “The game reported back to the “OG” (original game) map on November 3rd of 2023.” The Fortnite gamer community was ecstatic about the “OG” map making a comeback. On November 4th, one day after the release of the new map, 44.7 million people were logged on to Fortnite playing this old yet new game. With new records set, the game hit a new record of players. The game never even came close to that number even in its prime. Epic Games made a comeback and Fortnite is back! “Another day, another victory for the OG, taking down the sweats, the imposter’s among us,” said Brady DeWalt after taking a win. Senior, Mason Winslow is currently one of the best Fortnite players in the high school, along with Mack Shanks, James Bohlkin, and Maddox O’Toole, also known as Slime.
