UNDER THE LIGHTS, AROUND THE FIRE. On Wednesday, October 1, the Valley Heights Student Council hosted the annual Spikefest and Powderpuff games followed by the Bonfire. Before Spikefest and Powderpuff games, the Valley Heights FCA hosted a dinner in the cafeteria and prayer in the library. Leading the prayer was Lawson Stryker. Lawson shared, “I think the prayer and turnout went great. FCA has been getting a lot of attendance at our events lately, and I think that is amazing for our organization and great for people who want to spread and hear the word of God.”
The Spikefest teams consisted of the Juniors and Freshman versus the Seniors and Sophomores. The underdog team of Seniors and Sophomores reigned supreme over the jammed-packed roster of Juniors and Freshmen. Shortly after Spikefest, the Powderpuff game started. With the Seniors and Sophomores on a team and the Juniors and Freshman on the other, the Seniors and Sophomores were outnumbered. Despite scoring the last touchdown, the Seniors and Sophomores fell short. The game ended with a final score of 18-20. Junior Paige Miller described her experience as being a fun and competitive experience, she also shared that this was her third year winning Powderpuff.
After all the games were over, everyone headed to the overflow to participate in the lighting of the bonfire. The bonfire would never have happened without the involvement of StuCo members Jacob Vathauer, Dino Conti, and Dawson Vermetten. FFA StuCo Rep. Jacob Vathauer did a lot behind the scenes with getting the bonfire setup. He says, “I contacted the Waterville Fire Department to see if they would help us light the fire and keep it contained. We also had some outside help getting wood pallets from Caden Weaver.”
When asked what her favorite moment was during everything Freshman Lydia Wessel said, “It was way different from last year because the junior high just had to watch, but being in high school it was really fun and exciting. My favorite part of the bonfire was definitely the tug of war!”
