DAY OF SERVICE. The Valley Heights Student Council Day of Service was last Wednesday, October 22. The VHHS StuCo members have been planning the Day of Service, where students assist the community with various tasks. This includes cleaning up inside and outside the high school, as well as both elementary schools. This is a great way for high school students to help improve their schools and community, and to interact with elementary students.
In Waterville, students cleaned the firehouse, the elementary school, and the opera house. Other students went inside the schools to host activities with the younger kids. In Blue Rapids, they picked up trash and did yard work around the school and fire department, as well as making activities for the kids to take part in.
When asked what his favorite part of the service day was, Senior Bryce Wittgartner responded, “Cleaning the opera house and preparing for the upcoming show, Murder on the 518.” The Valley Heights StuCo members put together and planned the day of service. StuCo President Ella Swearingen says, “It went really well. We look forward to this every semester and try to do something new and exciting. We incorporated the elementary schools more this year by creating activities they can take part in, and it's really important to give back to the community.”
