FOUR-TIFY. The Valley Heights Lady Mustangs are headed back to Dodge City for the fourth consecutive year, proving once again that determination and teamwork run deep in their program.
This season, the team has rallied around the word “Fortify,” their chosen word of the year, a reminder to strengthen their mindset, build unity, and reinforce every aspect of their game. That mindset was on full display last Saturday when the Mustangs traveled to Bennington to compete in the Sub-State Tournament, where the stakes were high and every point counted.
Facing two tough opponents, Berean Academy and Inman, the Lady Mustangs showed exactly why they’re a force to be reckoned with. In the semifinal round, Valley Heights came out strong against Berean Academy, dominating both sets. Their communication and teamwork showed as they swept the match in straight sets, earning a spot in the Sub-State Championship.
The championship match against Inman proved to be a true test of grit and resilience. After splitting the first two sets, the Mustangs regrouped and truly fortified their focus heading into the third. Fueled by the cheers of their fans and the drive to return to state, the Lady Mustangs executed with precision and maintained composure under pressure. Their relentless effort paid off as they defeated the Lady Teutons and punched their ticket to Dodge City once again.
This marks the fourth straight trip to the State Volleyball Tournament for Valley Heights, an achievement that reflects not only their consistency and competitive spirit, but also their word of the year: Fortify. “Its really special to me to make it for the fourth year in a row and I think it shows just how hard we work as a class and as a team,” says Senior Krista Porter.
