CONTINUING THE DREAM. Every year on the third Monday of January, we celebrate the achievements of a great civil rights activist leader, Martin Luther King Jr. He was born on January 15, 1929 to a ministerial family in Atlanta, Georgia. “I Have a Dream” is his most known speech because of its nonviolent advocacy for racial inequality and economic justice. His leadership contributed to a lasting legacy and continues to impact present day civil rights movements. Up until his assassination on April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was a pivotal American Baptist Minister who spoke through major events, such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and became a global symbol for peace.
