Kansas Day

KANSAS DAY. Happy 165th birthday, Kansas! Kansas Day is celebrated every year on January 29, this is the anniversary of Kansas' becoming the 34th state. This day is important for Kansans, as it is a time to look back on the state’s history, honor its gifts to the nation, and celebrate the unique identity of the Sunflower State. Kansas Day is widely celebrated in schools across the state. Valley Heights teachers often use the day to educate students about the state's history, culture, and geography. Students may participate in activities like making Kansas-themed crafts, and learning about famous Kansans. This year, the Waterville and Blue Rapids Valley Heights Elementary School participated in butter making, listening to Kansas songs, seeing a real buffalo trunk, old time games, and hearing about Kansas Stories. For the people of Kansas, it is a day to honor their past, celebrate their present, and look ahead to the future with optimism and pride.
