WIN THE DAY. “In life, you always see the darkest days before the sunshine.” Unknown. Senior Cameron Michael Beardsley feels that this quote motivates him to push through the struggles to become the best version of himself. Cameron was born on November 21, 2002 to Hallie and the late Rickey Beardsley. Cameron grew up in Ames, Iowa and moved to the Valley Heights community as a fifth grader. “Moving to Valley Heights wasn’t too difficult.” says Cameron, “Having family around really helped, especially since they got me involved right away and introduced me to new friends.” Family is extremely important to Cameron and one of his biggest influences has been his grandpa, Dr. Steve Ensley. “After my dad passed, my grandpa became my father figure and I strive to be more like him.”

Throughout high school, Cameron has been involved in many activities. He has participated in Art Club, Journalism, the All School Play, FFA, KAYs, NHS, Student Council, Forensics, and Vocal. Not only does he keep busy with these activities, but thoroughly enjoys being an athlete at Valley Heights as well. Cameron has played basketball and football all four years and participated in track for two years. Cameron’s favorite memory is his senior football season. “With COVID the season looked a bit different, but the team really started appreciating the moments together and formed a special bond.” Cameron goes on to say, “Sports has taught me that hard work pays off. It has also taught me to achieve my dreams.” Cameron plans on continuing his football career as a walk-on at Kansas State University and eventually using his passion to go into sports broadcasting. Cameron would like to be remembered as a strong leader with good character, but most importantly someone who will continually be striving to become the best version of himself. In order to do this Cameron believes “You must keep a positive mindset and win the day.”
