DETERMINATION & TOUGHNESS. The JH girls and boys basketball teams are gearing up for the upcoming BVL Tournament. This year, the tournament is being hosted at Valley Heights. Games will be played at the high school and Blue Rapids gym. The tournament will be the week of January 31st-February 5th.

“Our season started a little rough due to a lot of sicknesses, but we didn't let that stop us. These girls have shown determination, toughness, and have proven that they can adapt to any situation and they work very well together as a team.  I am extremely proud of every member of the team and the hard work that they have put in this season,” says Coach Meadows about the JH Girls’ season. The JH girls are going into the upcoming BVL Tournament with a record of 11-1. Being the first seed, the girls have a bye in the first round. They will not play until Thursday, February 3rd at 4:45 pm at the high school. They will play the winner of the Linn and Clifton-Clyde game, which will be Monday, January 31st. 8th grader, Mia Vermetten, has had a fun and memorable season. “My favorite thing about basketball is playing games and spending time with my teammates,” says Mia. The team is excited for a prospective match up against Hanover. “I’m excited to see Hanover because it’s just a more intense game and is better competition.”

“My favorite thing about basketball is just playing in the games and getting to play alongside my teammates,” says Aiden Unruh, 7th grader. The JH Boys’ have put a lot of hard work in throughout their season. They are going into the tournament with a record of 1-12. The boys will be playing in the first round of the tournament. They are matched up against Clifton-Clyde, on Monday, January 31st at 7:15 pm in Blue Rapids. “We have played Clifton-Clyde close, so I’m excited to play them and hopefully come out with a win,” says Unruh. Aiden and his teammates have had a fun season with many memories. “My favorite memory from basketball is when Chad Bargdill knocked someone out of bounds really hard. It was really funny,” says Unruh. Both the JH Girls and Boys teams are looking forward to the tournament and to bring home some hardware.
