Forensics Team

LIKE CLOCKWORK. “Our home Forensics meet is a colossal undertaking with many moving parts,” says junior, John Haefke. The Valley Heights Forensics team is hosting a competition this Saturday, the 26th, at the high school. Students involved will arrive by seven o’clock in the morning to make final preparations for the meet.

Events at this meet are as follows: Humorous Solo Acting, Serious Solo Acting, Improvised Duet Acting, Duet Acting, Original Oration, Informative Speech, Extemporaneous Speech, Poetry, and Prose. There will be two rounds for every event in addition to one final round each. To help run this competition, twenty-five outside volunteers, mostly Valley Heights Alumni, are coming to judge these events. Nine schools are coming to compete at this meet. From these nine schools, there are a total of 120 event entries: 7 in Humorous, 12 in Serious, 15 in IDA, 6 in Duet, 10 in Oration, 7 in Informative, seven in Extemp, 29 in Poetry, and 27 in Prose. These numbers are expected to shift. This meet is expected to last until about 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Forensics members and their sponsor, Mrs Coon, have been working tirelessly for the past three weeks in order to set up this meet. Preparation for these tournaments is an immense commitment of time and effort. Mrs. Coon says, “I will start counting down the days until the next meet the moment this one is done.”
