TO SAVE TIME. Since the 1970s, the majority of the United States has followed a practice of pushing clocks forwards and then later backwards by an hour once a year. It was originally intended to reduce energy consumption and grant more daylight hours to American citizens and farmers. In recent years this practice has come under question by both lawmakers and the general public. Washington Senator Patty Murray says, “This past weekend, Americans from Washington State to Florida had to lose an hour of sleep for absolutely no reason.” The US Senate has passed a bill to stop changing the clocks. It will soon go to the House of Representatives.

Similar sentiment towards Daylight Savings Time is even present here. Government and history teacher, Jordan Broxterman says, “I’m glad that we won’t have to change our clocks anymore. I’m tired of seeing so many of them off by an hour.”

In keeping with the Daylight Savings them J-Staff ran a photo contest. This article’s cover photo is the winner of said contest: Morgan Vindeska. The second place winner was Taya Smith and Callie Schmit took third. Other finalists in the contest include: Hayley Nemechek, Taylor Crook, Emma Brungardt, and Kayla Bigham.
