WORKING RELATIONSHIPS. Some people see school as a way to get away from home, but this can be a different dynamic for people who work or go to school at the same place. At Valley Heights Jr/Sr High School, there are multiple families that work in the same environment or are in the same building every day. An example of these relationships are mother, Jennifer Pacha and her son Oliver, and also teachers that are married, like Adam and Katlen Schreiner.

“We eat lunch together, and occasionally see each other throughout the day in the halls during passing periods,” says Mrs. Schreiner. The Schreiners have been working together for six years.  Even though they see each other during the school day, they spend the majority of their time with each other at home. “The hardest part about working for the same district is not having the same schedule. It’s hard being together as a family on the weekdays because we each are involved with different school activities,” says Mrs. Schreiner.

Oliver Pacha, a seventh grader, says “the hardest part about his mom working at the school is trying to call her Mrs. Pacha, rather than mom.” Mrs. Pacha has been working here for four years. “The biggest challenge is separating home life from work and school, says Mrs. Pacha. It’s not always easy keeping things professional, but it’s also not that hard and I try to treat my kid the same as everyone else, even though I do find myself being a little harder on him at times,” says Mrs. Pacha.
