The Band Playing In The Stands

THE BAND IS HOT

The Valley Heights Marching Band will be performing their halftime show, “Could Have Been Me” on October 15, at the Valley Heights football game against Alma-Wabaunsee. The marching band has been working on their show all year. Their work started with band camp in August, and has continued with three rehearsals every week. The band plays pep band tunes at every home game and has performed previews of their full show at multiple games.

John Haefke, Senior, has been in the band for eight years. “I’ve been playing baritone since fifth grade, so it just felt natural to continue to participate” John’s biggest goal this year is to have the band get a one rating at the concert band competition. He is the only senior in band this year and will be recognized at Friday night’s game.

Creighton Smith, Freshman, has been in band for five years. He joined the band because he thought it would be fun and decided to stick with it as an elective. Creighton is on the football team and will be performing with the band after the game.

Ben Worcester has been involved in band for 26 years. His favorite thing about band is getting to tell stories from all of his band trips. Mr. Worcester joined his elementary band in fifth grade and has been playing trumpet ever since. This is Mr. Worcester’s third year at Valley Heights and he is excited to see where the band can go. “One of my biggest goals is going to come true when I see the band do their full show,” said Worcester.

The band will continue their hard work to prepare for district band, state band, the Christmas concert, and concert band competitions.
