ON THIS ‘JOURNEY’. “I think this season is going really well, goes great with our theme ‘Journey’, and it truly has been a journey of a continual process. We are going to get where we are going and I really believe that,” said head coach, Susan Steinfort about the 2022 volleyball season. The Lady Mustangs have gone 21-11 to this point in the season. “This season has had both ups and downs, but the girls have overcome lots of adversity.” Coach Steinfort goes on to say,”My favorite part has been, seeing the growth and pieces come together within the season, the growth in all players whether it's freshman C-team, freshman varsity, sophomores, juniors, and seniors improving on things they couldn't do last year. Having new roles that they are taking on has overall just been super exciting.”

This year there is only one senior, Taya Smith. There are two freshmen starting in the lineup, which just goes to prove that the Mustangs, are a younger team that so many opponents have tried to overlook. Junior, Delana Murk said, “The biggest struggle this season has been that we have so many people that could be put in multiple, different positions and trying to find the best fit for us; both individually and as a team.”

As the Lady Mustangs approach the middle of October, they started to prepare for the Twin Valley League tournament and post-season play. Coming into the next few weeks Coach said,  “We are preparing for specific teams, but also focusing on our weaknesses, as well as, maintaining our strengths and getting those better also.” Focusing on this Saturday, Murk said, “Hanover, Centralia, and D-west are going to be our biggest competition. All of the teams are a threat because they are all really scrappy and can put the ball down.”

Entering the league tournament the Mustangs are sitting as the sixth seed. When asked what the team needs to do to be successful, Coach Steinfort said, “How we have been playing lately, focus and consistency will be two things that we will really need to work on. Also entering matches focused and ready to compete and then just getting consistent with passing.” The league tournament is October 15th, and the Mustang’s are scheduled to play their first game at 11a.m.
