Valley Heights USD 498 is currently accepting applications for an elementary teacher at Blue Rapids Grade School. Valley Heights has a tradition of success in all areas of academics and activities. Through fidelity and rigor, our elementary was named a 2017 Blue Ribbon School for their transformation within the MTSS framework which ensures each individual student's social/emotional and academic needs are met. In 2018 they were named a National Title I Distinguished School for closing the achievement gap for all student groups, one of only two schools in the state of Kansas to be recognized. Most recently, the foundational work to become a Trauma Informed district has been initiated to address the mental health and Social Emotional Learning of our diverse student population. Another goal we are striving to achieve is in creating collaborative teams of community and school representatives to establish relationships and build connectivity between our district, parents and patrons. Valley Heights has an experienced and dedicated staff that is continually looking toward ways to improve and increase student achievement. We are proud of the rich, rural traditions that have created the family environment that ties our two small, but progressive, cities into one district.

Valley Heights Senior Awards Night will be Tuesday, May 18th at 7:00pm. Location for this event will be at the VH High School Commons. All are welcome to attend and listen to the scholarships that will be shared with our students.
Biology students started the fetal pig dissections this week.
Correction to the earlier post: Jr High Awards will be moved to Thursday, May 20th at 2:30pm at the High School Gym. Again parents are welcome to attend. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
The USD 498 Board of Education voted last night at their regular monthly meeting to alter the school calendar to the following: Monday, May 24th will be the last day of school for students, and this will be a full day. Please note that there will be no school the morning of Tuesday, May 25th. Have a great summer!
Due to a schedule change for the end of this school year, the Junior High Awards will be moved up to Monday, the 24th at 2:30. Parents are welcome to attend.
Effective Tuesday, May 11 the USD 498 mask protocol will be updated to "Masks are recommended, but not required.".
If you received a letter from the Health Dept. regarding the updating of your child’s immunizations, please return those forms to your building secretaries as soon as possible as they will be here on Wednesday!

Due to the incoming weather, we will be moving the Mother/son Night of Fun into the gym and commons tonight!! Lots of yard games, hot dog picnic and a movie! Bring a pillow and a blanket and get some snuggles from all your sweet boys tonight! Cannot wait to see you all there!
Don’t forget! The Mother/Son Night of Fun is tomorrow at 7:00PM-10:00PM! Weather permitting it will be at the football field! If weather decides to rain on our fun, we will move to the gym/commons!!

Reminder that Play Day has been moved to Wednesday, May 19th. Waterville Grade School will compete in the morning and Blue Rapids Grade School will compete in the afternoon. More information on the time of events will be sent out on Friday, May 7th.
